Well the stock tac on 99-00 si's is notroiously inaccurate, and if you add a set of cams then up your redline, your not gonna know where the hell to shift! The tac becomes more inaccurate at higher RPM's, also if you say get a H22 swap, your Redline will be lower than you cars current redline.
Theres many reasons, some ppl think it just looks fast too....

I like mine cause at different rpms it changes color. I leave people in awwee when I run em and then leave em in v-tec. I just like the looks of it and plus that big giant red flash at redline get attention all the time,gotta love it.

My last car didn't come with nor did I add a tach...
IMO they're pointless... if you are looking at the tach for when to shift you probobly don't know your car or how to drive very well...
Sure I guess if your some kinda dragwhore you MAY "need" one... but even then I think driving by feel is just as if not MORE affective.
