I don't believe so. It should come in both auto and manual versions:

No, they came in automatic and manual versions
Correct.
Any to anyone that wonders why a P28 wont run Y8 properly it has to do with differences in ignition timing between the Z6 and Y8.

get a ob2a-obd1 jumper harness. It will run, but not sure how good. Not sure if you would needa tune or not.

I'd kind of forgot about this, but there is an OBD2 P28 used with Y8s, its found only in the '96 - '97 Del Sol Si and I believe its just a P2P with a different part number.

You can run the engine with the P28 with a jumper harness assuming the car is a 5 speed, if its an automatic it wont control the transmission. It will run poorly due to timing differences between the Z6 and Y8, the only way it will ever run right is if you get it chipped and tuned.

i wouldn't if you are in a state that does a ecu check on 96+ vehicles. OBD II.
lots of states do it now, just to plug it in and check codes. if its a p28, they can't plug it in, then it wont pass.
cali = no go with no way around it.
