what would cause all this red rust in the distributor
I have a 2001 b18c. In the last year I have replaced the cap and rotor 3 times and the "O" ring, the coil once and had to replace the small coil 3 times as it was completely gone. Each time I completely take the distributor apart and clean each piece and dry them. but after a few months it looks like this again. I don't see cracks in the housing and all the "O" rings look good and I don't hear any noises coming for the distributor.

Not sure about the rust, but the contacts in your cap look DESTROYED. If you replaced it 3 times in a year that makes that cap like 4 months old. How could it wear THAT fast?
After buying 3 caps, 3 rotors, o-ring, and an ignition coil. You could have just bought a new dist....

yeah the destroyed cap and rotor was a whole other problem. The rotor set screw unscrewed itself and bounced around for a while. funny thing was the car still fan fine except for a little more back firing on decal.

Or you can buy the housing from Honda and have all new wiring and sensors as well as the bearing for a little over 100 bucks (part#4):
