eg's are refered to as the 92-95 hatches, and ek's are refered to as the 96-2000 hatches.
its all in personal preference, pick one that you think looks better.

Why don't you look it up, instead of wasting your time trying to create snazzy thread titles?

Search harder. Clue - search "chassis codes" or look in the FAQ at the top

In 92-95, the Si was VTEC (D16Z6). The 92-95 VX was VTEC-E (economical VTEC) but I don't think that's what you mean (just in case you didn't know it doesn't yield any extra power per-se, it just helps you get better gas mileage ). Though the Si had regular VTEC.

I don't believe there are any hatches from 96-00 that have a VTEC motor, though I am not sure on that (say 99% sure?).

you're right, no 96-2000 hatches in America came out with vtec.

Thx for clarifying it for me .

In addition to my last post:

EG's are generally referred to as 92-95 hatches and EK's are usually referred to as 96-98 hatches.

Though even wider people usually refer to ALL 92-95 civics as EG's and ALL 96-98 civics as EK's...might not make a whole lot of sense from a specific chassis code point of view, but it's common generalization.

As far as EG6 and EG9, I'm 99.999%sure the EG6 is the JDM 92-95 hatchback and the EG9 is the JDM 92-95 sedan (4 door).

JDM = Japanese Domestic Market (sold in Japan). I don't think there were any EG6's or EG9's sold in America. I could be wrong though.

What are the 99-00 hatchbacks referred to than?

I'd stick with the EX. Your car is already pre-wired for VTEC (meaning, if you decide to swap later; you won't need to worry about wiring VTEC). Hatches are a dime a dozen, I'd keep the coupe.

I have an CX EG hatch, and an EX EG coupe as well. I'd take my coupe anyday over a hatch.

Lemme water it down some more.

You're looking for a hatch.

So assuming you're looking at hatches made in America you're basically looking at the following:
'88-'91
ED6 (orig. civic)
ED7 (Si)

'92-'95
EH3 (Si, VTEC)
EH2 (CX, VX, DX)

'96-'00
EJ6 (CX, DX)

The 92-95 VX comes with VTEC-E (economical VTEC), great for MPG, though the D15Z1 isn't exactly great for power...in my opinion anyway.

The 92-95 Si comes with regular VTEC (D16Z6). Very well rounded motor in my opinion.

Now of course motors are swappable, so chassis/engine is all up to you. Personal preference + budget, my man.

EDIT:
Please, anybody feel free to intervene (in a relatively civil manner) if my stats/chassis codes are wrong or I left something out.

I have a coupe, sometimes I think about getting a hatch...cute cars. .

Funny that you say they're a dime a dozen because they definitely are..but around me coupe's are MAD common and I know two people in this town who own a hatch...*** backwards town .

Ah, I'm sorry, I was speaking in terms of H-T generalization. I don't call 'em anything, but I do believe they would be EJ6's also.

I'll be honest with ya. I thought the generation ENDED at 98 and there was a separate gen for the 99/00 (the Si). It took me awhile to realize that they simply only made them there. So I still linger around and put '98 instead of '00 quite often (you'll notice it in a lot of my posts mentioning that gen).

My bad, sorry.

No harm, no foul.

The way I see it, all the hatchbacks/coupes are the same through 96-00, excluding the front end/taillights and dash on the 99-00. Also, with the exception of the 99-00 Si (EM1).
