Default What size wrenches

Im about to buy a deep socket set. What is the smallest and what is the highest i will need for working on any part of my car. I dont need to overkill on useless wrenches.

and which is better in your opinion, 6 or 12 point, and why

A good investment is the 10-16mm craftsman deep socket set. It goes for like 24.99 at sears. That will be enough to do lots of stuff on your car. That plus a 17 and 19mm.

I'd say 8-19 for a "complete" set... the more the merrier

8-19 will cover most everything, and get 6 point. almost all the bolts on hondas are 6 point, and 12 point sockets have been known to round off 6 point bolts.

My sockets go from 10-19 and my wrenches go from 7-19.

I'd get something like that and maybe a 32mm if you plan on doing any axle replacements (6.99 at Sears)

All of my sockets are 12pt. They just happened to be what I picked up. Sometimes they will round off the bolts just a bit, but I haven't had any major issues yet.

all u need to work on a honda are

10-12-14-17-19mm

32mm for axel nut

6pt is the best because it wont round off your bolts

18mm to 10mm for most part on hondas. 12> 6 because the 12 points will grasp the side of the head of the bolt better, more precise fit, and have a less chance of stripping the head.

Ok so which is true, 12 or 6. Why does everyone say completly contrasting things. One has to be better than the other and less likely to strip.

15 years of experience from that guy says 12....who dissagrees and what basis

this might sound really weird but some bolts on my car are standard....

lucky I hvae like 4 sets of both standard and metric, not to mention huge ones (tractor trailer standard type wratchet set, sockets get HUGE)

Anyways I ran into a 9/32 bolt on my dist, and I forgot, but it was a standard size on my battery too, iono why, prolly just replaced with not the right size parts, just put the **** in there with teh same crossectional but diff heads :-\

EDIT:
I need a deep socket set I'ma have to buy one

Which one do you guys think is better, snap-on or craftsman? I know craftsman has the lifetime warrany on any part which I really LOVE, and the snap on truck comes by like once a week by my friend's garage so the aprts come to me when I need 'em (bought **** from them like a bigger breaker bar, booster pack)

J/w which u guys think is better, I think craftsman is for wratchets incase u break one but I'm wonderin what other pple think

Sorry, I'm not meaning to jack ur thread at all, I'm just trying to figure this out and I'm sure a lot of pple wouldn't want to see a new thread about it

8-19mm 6pts. $25
14or12(forgot) & 17 12pts. 6 buck each at pepboys for clutch and flywheel
32mm craftsmen. axle nut for civics. other cars are different. 7buck at sears.(chepest single 32mm socket i can find.)
8pc screwdriver set. craftsmen. 10 buck.

for an eg, thats all you ever need for normal used. there is the more technical stuff but these are pretty basic.

stick to regular sockets, not deep. use deep only for impact or spark plugs. (in my opinion, honda dont have much space to work with)

think about wiggle room. If you're using a 6 point drive on a 6 point head, there's not a lot of empty space around the head. If you're using a 12 point, you're only gripping the edges. Truth of the matter is that most times you won't notice a difference between 6 point and 12 point, when everything is working right.

But when that bolt is stuck, and you try to use a 12 point socket on it, you stand a good chance of rounding the head off. With 6 point, it grabs the head better, so there's less chance that you'll round the head off.

as for what sizes, you can take most of a Honda apart with a 10mm socket. Personally, the most used sockets I have are 10, 12, 14mm deep well 6 point 3/8 drive, 17, 19, 32mm shallow 6 point 1/2 drive

There are others, but most of a Civic comes apart with those. Clutch slave uses an 8mm wrench, as I recall.
