Default what ecu do i have

i have a type-r motor out of a 99 type-r but the ecu isn't an OBD2 ecu i think it's like p28 or something im not sure but my car won't pass inspection in my state because my car is a 96 what can i do?? Do i need a GSR ecu from 96 and up

GSR, ITR, or Civic B16 Si ecu from a 99-01 motor

You have a P28...many people convert from OBD2 to OBD1 so that they can run a chipped ECU, however, you cant pass emissions with an OBD1 ecu on an OBD2 car...

well my friend has a 99 si and he tried to hook his ecu to it and it wouldn't fit so i talked to a guy who said i might have to use a GSR or ITR ecu that is obd2 because mine is set up for aem plug'n'play that why i have it

what does the code on the side of the ecu say? 37820-**-***
