Default what to do if a screw is stripped?

hey, i was trying to open my foglights up to replace the bulb with a higher wattage bulb. there are 3 small screws to open it up. the screws were so damn tight i used wd-40 and ended up stripping the head w/ a phillips screwdriver. so now i can't open the ****** up and the screws are still pretty tight . what do i do? I was thinking on using a dremel and making a slit in the head so i could use a flathead screwdriver but it would be a little hard. any suggestions?

dremel can cut a slit easy, i suggest screw extractor set from sears, or drill it out

Yeah, I'd try the dremel trick first, if that fails, you can drill it out, and replace it with a bigger one if necessary

Needlenose Vise-Grips work well if you have room to get them on the screw head.

That's a baaaaaad place to strip a screw.

I'd definately try a dremel slit and slotted-screwdriver before anything else.

this happened to me just a week ago with the screws holding on the rotor.....

take a flat head screw driver, place it into the head...

get a hammer, and start hammering it in there so you make your own indentation...

when you are deep enough, just go ahead and unscrew it out....

kinda ghetto but it works, i thought i was fucked when i stripped that screw but i got the tip from a friends dad....

good luck...

Hey genius, it's his foglight assembly. The hammer or impact-screwdriver trick isn't an option. Have you ever seen the Civic foglight assembly? Didn't think so. If you did, you'd know that the screws he's talking about are placed so that hitting them with a hammer would shatter the foglight (which would be contacting the ground).

buy a cheap screwdriver (and kind that will fit in the hole you made) and sand the tip down so it's rough. Clean the hole in the screw out really well, wait for everything to dry. Fill the hole with JB Weld and stick the screwdriver in. Let sit for a few hours and you should be good to go. It does waste a screwdriver though.
