Default What Caused the Difference in Weight in the EK from 96-00

I was looking at the master weight list for honda's and notice that theres a big difference in weight from a 96EK hatch dx to 00EK hatch also dx. What caused the big change in weight?

1996 Honda Civic DX HB MT 2242
2000 Honda Civic DX HB MT 2388

I believe most of the weight was from the restructured front end.

haha. It's a 146 pound difference. So its gotta be a great deal of stuff.... or one big thing. If you said 96-98 dx's didnt come with ps, than that would take care of some of it, but not the whole 146 pounds. And the front end change couldn't have been much, if any, weight change.
*waits for someone with an answer*

its possible that stock parts were made with heavier/thicker materieal. For exaple, I know for a 96 rad support is lighter then a 99 rad support, only by a few punds, but there is a diffrence. 146lbs can go pretty easy. there of lots of little things that can add up. Also, the diffrence between ac and no ac can be pretty big. 25-30lbs for a compressor, 8lbs for a condensor, 6lbs for an accumulator, diffrent heating box...it all adds up.

oh oh , i remember now, dont forget the 99-00 has a totally different ac/heater control consol, i believe most of the weight ws because of that.

Doubtful. Iti'd be interesting to weight the individual pieces, but I'm betting they're not that different in weight at all.

I could possibly see if some larger part changed in the material it's made out of, that could cause a jump in weight at least some. Still, I don't know of any different materials used in the construction.

I know some wiring is slightly different for some stuff... and that would lead me to believe certain electrical components could be different, if even slight.
