Weird Ticking/Tapping sound on JDM d15b...
When I start my d15b on these cold winter days I hear a strange ticking/tapping sound coming from the head . It didnt always do this...(just started a week or so ago)...I just changed my oil and it Looked fine I dont think its in the bottom end. (mobil 5w-30). The longer the car sits usually the longer the sound lasts but it is usually gone by 30 sec after start up or up to 5 min but it doesnt seem to be constant. Like I just started it 5 min ago after it sat for about 2 hours and it was gone in 20 seconds. I have no idea what this is any help would be great. Thanks
key: Im in NY and its a JDM d15b

My car does that too. I have a Z6 head with B7 block.
Wants to know why his head is ticking at startup...as well as why the entire right side of the head is leaking oil

my fuel injectors do it. put a screwdriver to the metal part on the injector while it's started. put the plastic part of the screwdriver on your ear, you'll be able to hear it better

The part that is circled is a lost-motion device. The DX motor does not have them. These devices absorb the VTEC rocker arm movement when the engine is not in VTEC. You may be able to push on them while they are still mounted to the head, but you will need to orient the cam properly for each one.

Where is it leaking from? Around the cam cover or lower in the head?

You don't necessarily need to replace all of them. You should inspect them to see if one is binding. You will need to remove the 10 12mm bolts that hold down the cam girdle. You will need to re-adjust the valve lash if you remove it.

way off what these guys are saying, but are you 100% sure it isnt one of your belts, like air-con, power stearing etc?
my jdm d15 had a really loud air-con belt, It took me a while to work out where the sound was

i can always hear tappets on my d15b when its cold, even right after adjusting the gaps..as soon as the engine warms up i can't hear them any more, especially true on cold days for obvious reasons..
