Default Weird CEL

I just finished swapping my '93 Del Sol Si. I put a B18B1 in it and I've been getting this weird CEL. Anytime I drive the car before it is COMPLETELY warmed and at operating temp, I get a CEL. If I let the car warm up all the way, no check engine light comes on. Also if I get the light, then shut the car off and then turn it back on, the light disapears... any ideas?

The motor also makes a backfiring noise then I let off the gas. Is this normal? It worries me becuase I have no idea what it is.

Thanks for any input!

what computer are you running? did you bother to see what code your getting? these things would help..
your "backfiring" problem could be exhaust related.. do you have a cat or just straight pipe?

The next time you get the CEL, let the car run and use a paperclip to jumper the service port. There are 2 connectors near the ECU, the smaller one with the brown and green/white wire are the service port. Then watch the CEL for the code.
