Default Weight Reduction

Im not exactly sure where to put this, it didnt seem to fit anywhere else so Ill post here, feel free to move it mods. I am getting a 93 dx hatch and will be gutting it. I have seen a lot of gutted hatches that have bars running horizontaly through the back portion, is this because when you remove the seats and stuff you loose support? I was thinking they didnt provide much support anyway. Im thinking things like remove back seat, carpet, sound deadening material, speakers, things of that nature for my weight reduction. Is there anything else special that can take off some weight? Thanks!

Removing seats will not question the structural integrity of the car. The bars are for a stiffer suspension or SOMETIMES show. As for the information on the additional weight reduction.....a search will find thousands of ideas and suggestions.

To reduce weight you can:

Remove AC
Remove Rear Seats
Remove Quarter Panels
Remove Spare Tire/Jack
Remove Headliner
Remove Carpet
Remove tar under front seats
Remove heater core/fan blower
Remove rear bumper support

Im sure there's other stuff that I've missed.

This is all pointless if you have your D15B7 in it. It doesn't make you cool.

That bar just stiffens up the frame.

I don't think it'd be pointless in anypoint. Loss of weight is loss of weight no matter what you look at it. Hell if you have a d15 it'd be better since it's a smaller less powerful engine that needs less weight to pull. Just because you don't have the mighty b-series under your hood mean you shouldn't do **** to your car?
