Default Weak brakes

Ive searched but dident find anything possibly im not searching the righy key words but heres my proplem.

The other day while driving on the interstate I went to use the brake and it felt a lot weaker then normal I had to push down nearly twice as far to get the same effect as I did yesterday. Any ideas on what to check for would be apreciated. I plan on checking the obvious tomarrow but other ideas would be helpfull.

Did you just have to push harder, or did the pedal actually travel farther?

If you're gettiing a 'squishy' feeling, with more pedal travel, then you probably have air in the lines. Check the fluid first. If it's normal, bleed the lines and see if that helps.

The pedal travels farther and i have to push harder, i doubt its air in the lines but ill bleed them just to be on the safe side. Im wondering if i dont have a bad line thats bubling out when i push on the brakes causeing the lack of pressure. I dont know

Check for leaks, and bleed the system. Have you lost any fluid?

possibly... when you are stopped at a light with your foot on the brake does the pedal start to sink to the floor?

Press the pedal quickly once or twice then hold it firm. If it falls away it's (likely) the master cyl.

I got the feeling the brake pads are worned down, or when you were braking the brake rotors were hot and were not gripping.

All tho that's possible the brakes in a Del sol aren't much bigger then you would find on a bicycle (literally - There small) but i replaced them and had the rotors turned (all 4) this last summer because of an abs like pulsating from the pedal and that fixed that.

But anyhow today i was in the car and with the engine OFF i pushed on the pedal 4-5 times (pumping the brakes) and i could always push it down 2" i think. Point being is if i remember right you should be able to pump them with the car off and after a few times 3ish? you shouldn't be able to push them down anymore without starting the motor or turning the key to the on position to bleed the built up pressure (Power brakes) Ive never used manual brakes so.......

In short Mikey thinks master brake cylinder is broken comments?

Im hoping thats all it is, I first realized my bad breaking proplem the hard way by kissing the rear end of a fellow honda but his car was fine and i cracked my bumper and a broken fog light. Anyhow none of us wanted to do anything about it no harm no foul well take care of our own deal so i was pretty lucky but it just goes to show you what goes around comes around because ive had a few people do the same thing to my car in a parking lot or something and an apology was more then enough for me assuming my car was fine or a scratch on a bumper

if doin every thing that every one else said and they still act wierd. check all the lines even the hard lines for bends and if you can check the rubber lines too to see if there is any kind of resistance. and the thing about pumping the brakes with the car off and not being able to push them any more is actually you using the remainder of the vacum in the booster. and when you turn the car on they are able to be pushed cause there vacum being produced in the booster.
