Water temp gauge probe, Where to install?
#2
you don't have to install one. look right under your distributor should be a green/yellow wire going into the head that is the probe. or you could tap it behind the guages at the big connector at the right green/yellow

That's not necessarilly true. The stock sending unit and an aftermarket gauge sending unit will most likely have different voltage requirements. Using an aftermarket gauge with the stock sender will more than likely give false readings.
I just installed a VDO water temp gauge myself. I used an AC water temp gauge adapter.

The port in the adapter is 1/8" and the VDO sender is 3/8". I spent a little time at Home Depot and put togther a brass adapter for it. Works great now.

I use an Autometer brand gauge in mine.
What I did was drilled a hole in the waterneck that houses the thermostat. There is a small flat spot that is ideal for this. I then tapped it to create the proper threads for the Autometer sender.

Re-read what I already wrote. That will work with yours also.
