It has always made this sound, and you can hear it the most from inside the car. It sounds like a knock, but the sound doesn't get any louder as I rev the engine. The engine revs fine and everything, it just sounds like a diesel at idle.

Is there any exhaust leaks? What's the idle at? And it sounds Like you have some valve noise, check valve lash.

No exhaust leaks, there used to be but I fixed them. Idle is at around 750. My valves are loud, but I've adjusted them numerous times, and they're set on the tight side of spec right now.

Yea everything else sounds good. From the inside it sounds like an exhaust leak, what are the things done to the car?

interesting noise. might want to check into the LMA's (lost motion assemblies) as being part of your valve noise

I've been curious if my LMAs were bad too since apparently the B16A is notorious for their LMAs. The sound inside the cabin is a low-pitched, almost knock. I can't put my finger on it.

I have one D16Z6 Civic coupe and I have the same problem, not that loud but I can hear something like that.
I assume (couldn't find it yet) that it come from the Air Conditioner compressor, ore Hydraulic pulley... something like that.... hahahaa

Hmm, it's never had A/C, but I just installed it, doesn't relate to the sound though. I can hear the low-pitched "knock" outside of the car if I stick my head really close to the intake manifold. I don't think it's a rod knock because it goes away when I rev it, and rod knocks that I've heard got louder when the engine is revved. Piston slap I'm not as sure about, I don't think it makes a low-pitched noise though. I'm still leaning towards the head because of the crazy sound it makes when I simply bolt on a header.

That sound is LMA's being bad or valve's out of adjustment. The pissed off typewriter sound is notoriously bad LMA's. Does the sound go away as you rev it?
Readjust valves in accordance with honda FSM, if sound persists, order yourself a set of LMA's.

sounds exactly like my car when it was super retarded b/c after i change my distributor cap I accidentally left it all the way cranked towards the radiator. try playing with that, and yeah either way you need to adjust that lash lol
