Default Want to use 4-point harnesses and retain rear seats. HOW???

Ok.. this is actually for a friend but Im lacking on finding him pictures and solid help for this.

He has a 99 hatch with USDM ITR seats and wants to install 4 point harnesses to use with these seats. He also has the rear seats and wants to keep them. Without installig a roll cage, how can he install these harnesses safely and still allow for passengers to sit in the rear?

Pics appreciated!!!

Aaron, just have him get the longer version of a 4 point meaning DO Not get the Roll bar 4 point. there should be enough slack in the harness to install the seat over top. If not then just drill out a hole under the seat and thread it. The harness will be between someone legs, but if thats how it has to be then thats how it will be.

I never thought you would post on here ever again!

i'll go ahead and say it before somebody else does-no harnesses without appropriate seats and rollbar...period.

And then get ina wreck and injure your back even worse.

There are a couple ways to do it right without a full cage, one is one of these...

Another would be to fabricate a bar that went across were the upper seatbelt mounts in the rear are.

You can install a harness bar, similar to mine, but you would have to modify the design to fit the hatch's frame.

for daily driving thats a no no...

get a harness bar or something, yes you can mount them to the seat belt bolts under the rear seat and have them come up between the backrests and the bottom of the seat, but I'd only use it for autox runs and roadracing not daily driving...

Thanks for fielding that one.

You can break your back in an accidnet. It's okay though, because you look "cool" with your mAd tYt3 4 point harness as you drive around on the road.

I actualy keep a harness bar in my car all the time. I don't use the back seat much but when I do the person just has to squeeze in under it. I put padding over it and hope no one bust his head.

I don't use a harness though. I couldn't imagine having to strap myself in every time I get in the car. If I go to the track I can quickly throw the harness in.

Thanks for the input guys. I was speaking to Aaron earlier for his input on this, I see he threw up a thread for me.

As far as the decision to retain the rear seat, it's for asthetic purposes only. This vehicle will be double duty - show/race. I actually don't plan on riding around with 4 passengers at any given time, I am just terribly against the 'gutted' look.

I've discovered a nice harness bar that Sparco produced similar to what you guys have shown me thus far.
