Default VTEC spool solenoid question

code 21 on a jdm d15b, im using the VTEC spool solenoid from my d16a (sohc vtec) motor, is the solenoid model specific or do all d-series motors use the same solenoid?

it either works or it doesnt. There isnt any Half VTEC.
Try cleaning the screen in the solenoid

check the code. if sohc engages you can hear it if you have an intake or an exhaust. Its kinda hard to tell on the stock filter. lol.

Actually, With an Exhuast on a SOHC VTEC motor it will only drown out the Crossover, Only because the cam is on the Intake side. Not the exhaust side.

Check for crimps in any wires.
Could be the solenoid itself, But that rarely happens. See if you can find someone with an ECU you can borrow.

It may very well be not pushed into the PIns all the way in the connector on your ECU plugs.

fiddled with it for a bit... i can see a little bit of the gold wires at the base of the VTEC wire, which im 99% sure its the orange wire with a white stripe... where can i but a new ecu harness? but i still think it might be my chipped ecu causing the code...

is it possible for your VTEC to work with a code 21?

No VTEC wont work with that code.
I cant see you needing a new harness.

What year is your car?
Easiest way i think to find the solenoid wire at the ECU is to look at the VTEC pinout digrams.

try a virgin ECU.

If it helps my problem turned out to be wiring. Harness had a few bad connections.

thanks dooood, i think my prob is my ecu's im using, im using a chipped p06 and a pr3 ecu so they might be a lil funny.

why do u want the mods to delete the thread? maybe itll help someone in the same situation as us. and i know u prob tried to search for code 21 but "21" is too short so people will search by "VTEC SPOOL SOLENOID" and our threads will pop up

good job on the fix btw
