Default Vtec Solenoid Question

Will a bad Vtec solenoid/ or gasket cause smoke to come out of my exhaust when I hit vtec? not sure what color smoke it is but my compression test and leak down test tested fine!!

it could be that you are running rich in vtec or that you have a slight leak in either your rings or valve stem seals only at higher rpm.

alot of hondas "smoke" when they crossover into vtec. if its a small puff then nothing to worry about. if its a constant thick plume then its probably valve seals

if the valve seals leak wouldn't it show it on the leak down test?

no, bad valve seats would show in a leakdown. the valve seals are "inside" the valve springs above the ports and valve guides. they seal the valve stem and thus the ports from the top of the head where the rocker assembly is with lots of oil everywhere...

for most applications they're pretty cheap for a set of 16. but you're looking at a pretty involved installation. my recommedation would be to find an old head for a deal somewhere, and rebuild it with your choice of cam, springs maybe a port job, Ti retainers... and your new seals. then you can just swap on your new fully built head!

you get your money/times worth that way.

already done then huh? when you did all of that did you have new seals put in?

if you aren't using more than half a quart in a month or so, you're not hurting anything.
