is the car stock? check the fuel pressure, and your positive vtec is engaging?

The honeycomb in the cat might have come lose and is clogging your exhaust flow. Is your gas mileage bad?

Your car would run like complete *** if you cat was clogged. It would bog at idle.

take off the cat and look. if you can see light from the other side, it's fine, otherwise replace.

If the cat is bad, you will still be able to go in vtec, it will just bog like you said. So the cat is a good candidate if the basic stuff is checked already.
