Default vtec controller on a d16y8

is it really worth installing a VAFC on an EX motor with only an intake, header and exhaust?

I have it on mine same setup. you can mess with the vtec settings if you want, but I find them fine where they are at. Dont mess with fuel unless you have wideband access.

No, in all honesty it's not. Your stock ECU can handle the modifications that you've made. Really, the only time you'll need to control your air/fuel and VTEC actuation points are when you've got forced induction or some serious mods like Stage 2 cams and high comp. pistons.
