valve cover rubs hood?
ok guys, i've searched and found nothing, so what in the hell could be causing my hood to rub my valve cover? i have a 93 hatch with a gsr swap? is this common? and what can i do to stop it...i think its when i get on it and the engine shifts back, but any help is appreciated, thanks in advance

There is not a hood clearance issue with a b18c swap in a hatch. Look at the mounts for cracks/tears.

Re: valve cover rubs hood? (EG TYPE-R)
it only rubs on the bottom right hand side, standing in front of the car...just on the very corner...i was thinking about a fiber images hood cuz they don't have the frame on the underside of the hood, but gotta check the mounts, i don't need no shitty cracked or torn mounts, so they'll be first, thanks though

Yes, probably as previously stated, One of the motor mounts is shot. Can happen pretty easily after a heavier motor such as a gsr goes in there. In the ek's, you get a nice indication by black oil sprayed all over your engine bay. Looks kewl.

A cheap way to stiffen it up is to put polyurethane inserts into your mounts.
After I did my swap, I put clay on the valve cover and shut the hood. I ended up with about a 1/2" of clearance.

Re: (.nate)
it should rub a little bit due to the reinforcement on the underside of the hood. it shouldnt rub TOO much, and it definately shouldnt dent your hood or anything like that. I never even notice it until someone pointed it out to me when they were checking out my handy work.

i bet its one of your motor mounts too. A while ago when I was removing my ac I removed the lower torque mount that connected to my ac compressor bracket by accident and my motor moved so much one time when I shifter hard that a spot on the valve cover that stuck out put a dent in my hood...needless to say I put the mount back in right away

i have those inserts, lol...i checked the mounts and they're good....it doesn't rub TOO much, just curious as to why...leaves a little bare metal spot on the valve cover from rubbin, so i guess i could notch out a small spot of the reinforcement of the underside of the hood

yea tell me about it.. . I thought it was only used to support the ac compressor or something, but i soon realized it was a mount that I needed. The car drove like **** without it.

I drove the car for 2 weeks with a broken driverside motor mount and no torque mount (same one as sohc) and every shift seeing my hood pop up a lil. that 96-98 hood is long gone and I'm using a place racing mount BUT STILL NO TORQUE MOUNT. The car drives fine. should I worry? hehe
