VAFC Problem (yes i searched)
I just installed my vafc (d16y8) and i left all the tuning alone, but today after driving around town i came to a stop light and my check engine light came on and my idle was f'ed up. It seemed like the idle didnt want to drop down 1500rpm, and when i started to go it jerked around and everything felt wrong. So i reset the ecu and the light went away and i drove it some more and it was fine, but then i restarted the car and went down the road and when i came to a stop it came back on and the same problems were there. The only thing i messed with was i made vtec come on at 5k. Ever since i installed it the idle has been kinda high 1200rpm after cruising and it would go up a lil and come down to around 950rpm, but i dont know why its causing the CEL to come on. Well after the second time i went home and reset my idle (i unplugged the IACV) and set it to 765rpm. Erased the ECU and drove it up and down the street, i also let it idle for a long time and nothing has happened. I just want to know if this is a common problem and how do i fix it??

Re: VAFC Problem (yoffer)
You switched the VTEC crossover without properly adjusting timing? I would say the same thing I always say to people with/considering VAFC's: Either know what you're doing, take it to someone who does, or don't put it on your car, because you will mess it up.
Sorry about your problem. Sounds like a timing issue to me, messing up your idle. Try taking it off and seeing if your problem goes away. If it's fine, and there's no damage, you should only put the thing back on when you take it to a tuning shop, which will professionally do it for you.

Yes thats the weird thing about it. I had my friend tune it at first. But i threw the CEL after driving it around an hour and then i reset the ecu and it went away, it came back on so i reset the fuel tables on the VAFC and it hasnt come back on since, but i want to know what would be cause the idle to mess up? The stock vtec engagement point is 5400-5500 rpm on a d16y8 and i moved it up to 5000rpm. But i wouldnt think it would cause the idle to be weird.

Does your friend know what he's doing? Or do you and he THINK he know's what he's doing? Is he a professional, or does he just know a bit about engines? The numbers can get out of hand easily, that's all I'm saying.

Re: (yoffer)
whats your cel code???
theres a topic about..its at the top of the 92-2000 page...get the code and then tell me what it is...
and i agree with the first guy.....if you dont know whats doing with your ecu, pay the extra $100 and have someone do it so it wolt mess up
$100 now
or $1,000 later for a new ecu and to have someone fix it then...?

idk what the code was, i was at a gas station when i reset it so that i could drive it home. I dont really think its going to screw up my ecu, (but who knows) everything is controlled through the vafc, so if anything was going to break it would be the motor. I know that everything is hooked up right and i get the correct voltage readings for my tps and everything.
