Using Plastigauge
Hey guys, i have a question about using grease with plastigauge.
In the instructions it says to use a smear of grease on the crankshaft journal, so i did and the clearences are where i wanted them.
But i then tryed it with no grease, as someone told me i'm suppose to do it dry as it will effect the reading and the clearences where quite loose.
Which do i go for ? I have used mainly black bearings so even if i had to do it dry the only next size up would be blue and that still would'nt be enouth. Also i went buy the letters on the engine and numbers on the crank.
The clearences were .0015 with grease & .002 without ? ?
Cheers

Re: Using Plastigauge
Follow the instructions and use the grease. Without lube the gage won't be free to spread out as much, thus you'll get a thinner line and a erroneous wider clearance. The gages will only read correctly if you follow the instructions.

that's why i came on HT to search, and found your thread
my plastigauge packet didn't come with instructions,
so do you guys mean that i need to put the assembly lube on the journals before i put the plastigauge on them?
this is the first i have heard that?
