type r in a ej
hi i just bought a ej2 civic with a itr swap in it... its pretty quick i just had some questions about it.. ive been working on cars for 9 years now so im mechanically inclined and know what im talking about...
my motor has cam gears on it but it has stock cams, does anybody know a good setting that would make more power up top..
what mod's does the motor mostly make power with... i have a short ram intake on it and 2 1/4 catback exhaust and it has the jdm itr 4-1 header on it...
im not planning on boosting the motor at all.. no turbo no sc no nitrous.. since its a high compression motor already, i just wanna leave it all motor and have fun with it
thanks for the help

I can't see putting over $1000 into a header for a stock motor. If you were already heavily invested into an all-motor build or a racecar you might as well, but a stock motor street car it's just not a good return for the money. Hunt around for the imitations like Rage or ProFab which make great power for less than half the money. Spend the rest on cams and tuning and you'll be ahead of where you would be with just a high-dollar header for the same cash.

Re: (klungemonger)
yea, im saving for itb's... the only problem i have with that is i live off a dirt road and its my dd, my other car is a turbo single cam, but i dont wanna be sucking in dirt, my only other thing would to get small air filters for each itb until race day then put velocity stacks on them...
ya im gonna get the copy smsp probably expletive 1k for a header i would like a rmf header, but idk if he's still around and i dont wanna spend a shitload on a header...
idk what cam's im gonna get yet still undecided lmfao.. i went to inline four and thought about gettin spoon cams.. but what is the point, i can probably get some other cams for cheaper and have better performance... i dont like skunk2 at all, maybe a jun2 or crower 2 with valvepsrngs and retainers.
i would like to raise the compression but its already 11.5:1 and i have shitty cali 91 pump gas so im not wanting to go above 12:1 so i think ill leave the bottom end stock and just work on the head... i would like to acheive around 250na whp maybe even more but i think its pushing it already with a stock bottom end
any more ideas?? im not gonna get it tuned for a little bit until i get some mods worth going to get tuned for

Re: (typer ej)
i would just save for sum itb's and open up the exhaust side a little more and leave the internals alone for know.. thats just my opinion tho..

Well you're not going to make 250whp n/a on 91octane. The cams you need to make that power need serious compression, which requires high octane or you'll have to retard ignition so much to avoid detonation you might make even less power than someone with a milder setup tuned to it's full potential.
I don't think for what they cost ITB's will help you improve top-end power numbers over a good manifold & t/b setup. If you have a stock ITR bottom end I don't think your compression is 11.5, I thought it was closer to 11 but I didn't look it up so someone correct me if I'm wrong...
If you invest in good parts and tuning you should be able to pull 210-220whp out of a stock bottom end, a guy here in MI did it a few years back but we do have 93 octane.
