Default Turbo'd LS. Y1 tranny yea or nea?

Here's the situation: I've got a EG8 and have wanted a turbo LS in it for a while. The chance arose when my friend bought a '90 Integra LS. While replacing the brakes he found out that the frame was damaged and rusted on the rear passenger's side, making the car uninsurable. The drivetrain had low miles on it (85k) though and pulled very hard for it's age, so I bought it off him for cheap. While removing the engine from the Integra I discovered why it pulled harder than other 90-93 Integras I've driven, it turns out that the motor had already been swapped. Nothing major but it was still a B18B1. Now this leaves me in a wierd situation because only the engine was changed, and the Y1 tranny was bolted back up to it. My question is what should I do about the tranny situation. On one hand I already have it (with a fairly new clutch) and I've heard that the gear ratio (with 4.400FD) is perfect for boost. However I've heard that cable trannies develop grinds a lot sooner than hydros, and I'll need a conversion kit to make it work with my civic. I just moved so money it tight right now. Used Hasport kits aren't much money, but if I were to ditch the Y1 for a gsr tranny (or whatever) I'd have to put off the swap until the spring when I have more money.
.
Honestly, how is the Y1 with boost in an EG? Will I be happy or would it be worth it to upgrade? or
.
EDIT: the LS is not yet in my civic. Just to clarify...

4.4 on an LS is crazy i ran a 4.4 final in my B16 and at 8200 at 75 i was at the end of third. you would be cruising at 75mph on the freeway at about 5k. thats crazy on an LS. get a GSR tranny for boost so you can drive and put power down to the wheels

What are your power goals? Do you plan to run the car at the track or is it just a street machine? I can give some first hand suggestions w/ more info

b16 w/ ls 5th set would be optimal
gsr w/ 5th set would be great too
stock gsr would also be good

I would hopefully like have around 220whp after the swap and turbo install. It's just a street car, but I would most likely take it to a drag strip every once in a while. I don't forsee myself tracking it at all.

Dollar for dollar.... lbs for lbs....
GSR w/ Quaife is your best bet (my opinion).

I've driven a b16 and gsr tranny (both quaife'd) and the gsr was way more pleasurable (for daily grinding). B16 felt like I was shifting way too often, and its at like 4-4.5k in 5th on the interstate.

This is exactly what I have and if you do a lot of interstate driving I would not reccomend it. Going 75 I sit right at 4K pretty much with the GSR tranny on my boosted LS. If you do a lot of in town driving with minimal interstate driving then the GSR is great fun

Do you know what your mpg is for interstate? I used to travel TONS in my civic (that's why it just hit 420,000kms/262,500miles two days ago ) but those days are behind me now. I drive to Winnipeg all the time but that's only half an hour.

Honestly I don't I have not really taken the car on the interstate that much at all. I know that my in town is usually about 33-38 unless I beat on it then it gets down to 25-30. Interstate I would assume maybe 25-30 not really sure though.

That's perfectly acceptable mileage to me. I just wanted to make sure I'm going to be filling up every 3 days or something rediculous. I'd rather have a turbo and a short geared tranny than great gas mileage, but it'll still be my DD so I have to take it into consideration. It sounds like the gsr is the way to go, but how would I go about finding a good one? Buying something that expensive from someone I don't know doesn't thrill me. Chances are the previous owner of the gsr it came from didn't drive like a grandma and I don't want to spend so much on a tranny with f*cked sychros.

The 4.4 FD ratio won't matter that much. The B16 2nd-5th gears are all higher value ratios, THAT is what makes the biggest difference between the two. A 4.4 FD isn't anything special, as it's the stock FD in B16, GSR and USDM ITR trannies (other than the B16A SiR I, which has the same FD as the Y80 [LS], at 4.266).

that is the tough on man. Mine fell into my lap, it had a brand new quilfe in it and it was newly rebuilt with 0 miles on it. I paid roughly $1,200 for it I think but when you think about it, it was one hell of a deal It is nice to have friends that buy quality parts and change thier minds once a month on thier car plans and then sell those same parts real cheap.
