Turbo Kit
Will a turbo kit work on a D16Y7? If so.. what other parts would I need to replace? Does it work for an automatic transmission? Does it only work for Vtec engines or will it work for non-vtec? Thanks

Re: Turbo Kit (Civic LX 29)
It will work on the D16Y7 if you get the EX intake manifold and the Cat-back from the EX (being the cat is located under the car).
Trannies don't matter.

Re: Turbo Kit (Spade)
it will bolt right up, it will bolt right up to your exhaust of course there will be no cat since the stock exhaust manifold had the cat built into it and u will be replacing it with the turbo manifold. i had this on my 99 cx same setup as yours. u can run your stock intake manifold as well but u will have to add a piece of piping to connect the from the greddy's kit to your throttle body since it will be too short and have to make a 90 degre turn to mate with the trottle body.

are you talking about the greddy kit? they claim that, but at the wheels the numbers arent all that great. dont get me wrong, FI is a good way to go, and you will see noticeable results, just dont expect to be beating ferraris.

Re: Turbo Kit (Civic LX 29)
will i still get about an extra 60hp?
I would say, if you are running at 7.5psi. Don't looks for any more than 40-50hp. You need vtec!!

I was joking, actually SOHC vtec does very little for turbo.

Re: Turbo Kit (B_zurC)
with a vtec head on a d16y7 ive heard about 10-15whp extra
and that might have to do something with the fact that the y7 intake manifold is crap
the y8 flows much better

Re: Turbo Kit (infamousRRH)
I have the greddy kit on my D16Y8, I gained 40 whp with a stock motor and 5 psi (non-intercooled). Best bang-for-the-buck mod you could do. I don't know how many whp I have now, but I am running 7.5 psi, intercooled.
I seriously don't recommend doing it on an automatic. Sell it, and get a five speed.
good luck,
aj

Re: Turbo Kit (Civic LX 29)
hey man.....if i was u i rather swap engine.....first of all to turbo a non-vtec sohc engine is pointless i think105+60(i doubt it with at tranny)=165? 5 more horse than si and u shorten ur engine's life a lot more...and u know if u have AT that's gonna make it even worse....for ur car i rather get nos...but if u insist to get turbo i say u get DRAG instead of greedy....but if u get drag u probably won't pass the emission.. so it's up to u...but for ur case i think swapping a B16 or B18 will be a wiser choice.
just my 2 cents

Re: Turbo Kit (rb26dett)
greddy=gay shiet it doesn't worth the money if u ever get turbo get Drag
For the money you cant go wrong with the greddy kit.
and..back on target...the y7 has a crappy intake manifold i highly recommend swapping that..or just going to a vtec head all together. But either way it can be done without a problem.

It's half the amount of money as a Drag kit and the turbo is more suited for a SOHC. The Drag kit utilizes a T3/T4 turbo. It is a tad big for the SOHC. This means more turbo lag. Greddy utilizes a TD04-15G turbo. This equals incredible spool up and tons of fun for daily driving. Greddy makes a high quality, emissions legal turbo kit for only $1500. Yeah, you might get more power out of a T3/T4, but it makes no sense in getting it for a SOHC. If you want to just go in a straight line your whole life, then waste your money on a T3/T4 turbo kit. If you want daily driven power, and fun forced induction for autocross and road racing, go Greddy.
suit yourself, but Greddy is most definitely not gay.

edit: looks like liam was able to get his bit in before me. We both have the same view

Re: Turbo Kit (ajn)
I recomend greddy...if you'll never boost more than 10psi.
Drag for more power potential. both are good kits.
What Drag loses down low, it makes up for on the top end.
Where Greddy offers good low, and midrange w/ quick throttle response.
It's a similar debate as that of the 4-2-1 header vs 4-1
