I know i'm goin to get flamed for havin an auto but i didn't have a choice.... i didn't pay for the car. i might be able to get ahold of a turbo for cheap so would it be worth it? would it work the same as it would with a manual tranny?

From what I have heard repeatedly, the automatic transmission will not hold up very well. (I wanted to do the same thing for a while) Basically it would work the same as on a manaul transmission car, but the auto will sap more power.

Is there any way to build up the auto tranny? or purchase a stronger auto tranny that would hold up better?

I ran my car with auto tranny. My setup was a d16z6 with auto tranny, greddy 15g turbo kit and 7psi. Ran a 14.30, better than the other 2 turbod civics that were there. They were both running 9psi and ran a 14.7 and 14.5. It has its ups and downs...it sucks up a lot of power (around 30% from what Ive read), but at the same time, you remain in your powerband longer and its very consistant. I took out my sohc engine and looked at the torque converter...it looked fine, no signs of slipping or anything like that. Now, this spring Im putting a b18b engine in my car w/ auto tranny. Im using a larger turbo and more boost, so to play it safe, I am planning on sending my torque converter to level ten to get built for forced induction. Dont be affraid to turbo your automatic, you'll kick some ***, trust me.

Isn't SCC doing their project CRX w/ Auto tranny?
IMO Auto trannies do wonders for consistency (good for bracket racing).

I too am gifted with a d16 auto. UI have been thinking bout turbo-ing it. I have done a ton of research as ffar as boost that the auto can handle. Any auto tranny can handle like 7psi. The SOHC engine is able to handle 7-9psi with out having to redo internals.

If you can get it cheap and would like to pep up your step, then why not. However with me, i am planning to get a new car in a year. This car is only going to last me for another year.

Its up to you. I would read some of the d16 turbo forums and see what they have to say. If you have the $ and you are not pressed with cash, go for it. It will be more then fun to drive. However when you add boost to your car, you will have problems guaranteed. Best of Luck to you.

Yes, but I doubt it will even be comparable to a stock Civic automatic transmission.
