turbo
I just purchased a greddy turbo kit for my 94 ex with 100k miles on it. I do not have very much money due to being married recently and the wife thinking imports are not life (i know, what is wrong with her?). Alot of people at my work are telling me that I am going to blow up my engine. I only plan on running at 5.5 psi of boost and nothing more. Are they right that I should build the bottom end of the motor or is it just those domestics guys not having faith in a honda

Re: turbo (94civicx)
tell them to eat a dick, preferabley large black ****. no it wont blow up, you might wanna get a comp. test check out cylinder pressure is even anyway before slapping it on. and you might want afuel pump for a litttle more pressure and make sure your injectors are up to spare. thats my .02, but you motor wont blow up dude. hondas are sweet

Re: turbo (poison)
thanks for the quick reply. The kit that I am buying also has the walbro 255lph fuel pump with it. On a 94 ex with zex camshaft, skunk2 gear, exhaust, and greddy turbo what do you think the estimated whp and torque lbs. would be. I live in lake havasu and we have no dyno available to us

ok, not too certain but at 6 psi with that....i think u should be pushin 145ish at the wheels which will bring u in mid to high 14's

Re: turbo (VTC_CiViC)
yah i was gonna say about 140 hp @ 6psi. another suggestion woiuld be to remove resinator and cat. there is a noticible power gain [simply from faster spool up] U can easily be in the 14s i think with some good driving.

Re: turbo (14eight)
j00 also might want to lower the compression a bit. double layer head gasket. just so the engine wont start misfiring under higher boost. 5 psi is completely safe for a stock bottom end. shiiiit, i had a friend boosting 12psi STOCK. no problems. he didnt daily drive it at that pressure, but raced it quite a bit.
good luck!
ohhh yeah, save yourself some $$$$ and install it yourself.

At 5.5psi with the greddy kit my '95 EX made 153 hp and 135 tq. With the ZEX cam I think you should make at least 10 hp more at the wheels.
Stock block, cam, ignition. Eclipse intercooler, straight pipe, EVO exhaust, 5lb lightened stock flywheel, ACT Xtreme pp, stock disc. And I was running 2 degrees of igntion retard on the dyno, which is not needed at 5.5 psi and probably cost me some power. I ran stock timing just fine at 5.5 psi. I ran several 14.4's at this boost level.
At 7.5 psi it made 165 hp and 145 tq.
These numbers are low because I was running 5 degrees of timing retard (way too much) because I was trying to get rid of some pinging I was having on the dyno. I ran several 13.9's at 8 psi on a 85 degree day.
I run 5.5 psi daily, and 7.5 when I get a challenge on the street. No problems.
My bro runs 8-10 psi (depending on the boost controllers mood) daily with the greddy kit on a stock block D16Z6 in a CX hatch. He ran 13.5 @ 101 mph at 8 psi.
Driving around with a passenger, full system, and 17's, he is able smoke just about anything he encounters. Hatches with B16,B18,H22 swaps and bolt-ons, gutted hatches with D16's and 75 shot nitrous, mustangs, camaros, etc. Of course there's always the occasional LS1 camaro, or WS6 trans am that he can't beat though. The greddy kit on a D16Z6 in a light car can be pretty amazing!
