trouble starting cold but not when warmed up
hi i am new to the world of civics. i just bought a 97 civic lx with 73k on it. the only prob it has is for some reason first time starting it in the morning or after sitting for a long time, it just turns and turns and turns. then on about the 3 or 4th attempt it starts up. i have changed the spark plugs and wires, oil was changed, air filter was changed, and TB was cleaned out. ive searched the old threads but haven't found an answer yet. Please offer any suggestions.
Thanks,
Thanks,

Re: trouble starting cold but not when warmed up (progolfer12)
Sometimes I wonder where people on this forum are coming from. If it cranks strong and just doesn't fire up, the starter and battery are fine.
Since it works fine once it's warmed up but takes awhile while cold, check the coolant temp sensor that sends a signal to the PCM. When the engine is very cold, as in been sitting overnight, the temp sensor sends a cold signal to the PCM, which then delivers extra fuel to warm the engine quicker...this is why it idles higher when the engine is cold. It could be dumping fuel, nor not delivering enough fuel, causing a hard start condition when the engine is cold.
