tranny seal leak causing my clutch to slip
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok guys iv had trouble with slippin clutchs latly and I have now confirmed that the tranny seal is leakin into the clutch assembly and causing it to slip. I have a 95 lx tranny on a d15b. I need to know what that seal is called, how to replace it, and do I have to split the tranny casing to do so?
Thanks in advance

if its engine side its rear main, if its from tranny its input shaft seal. You have to take the tranny apart to replace input shat seal

and replace the input shaft bearing too. You have to remove the bearing to replace the seal. They go bad fairly commonly on Civics, besides you'll have to punch it out to remove it. It's only like $30 from Honda. Saves tearing it all back apart to do later.

Re: tranny seal leak causing my clutch to slip
I read someone say a sleeve tool would work. Screw it, i got a spare il use for now until i can take some time to rebuild this thing. Iv seen rebuild kits for around 200 bucks ( i know i could get a tranny cheaper than that) and i imagine it comes with the seal and bearing. Iv never messed with trannys, they scare me but i did download a nice writeup the other day so i might give it a shot.

Re: tranny seal leak causing my clutch to slip
Ok im doing this for a buddy of mine and told him to buy a new clutch and of coarse he didnt, I told him to listen to u guys lol. We put a new tranny on, changed the rear main seal, and got a new oil pan gasket. We sanded the clutch down lightly and cleaned it with brake cleaner and of coarse it still slipped. Just for ***** and giggles what would b the best way to get this thing to hold. Mayb put it through another 1000 mile break in? I told him to b super easy for a week and then check it, if it slips once dont floor it again till another weeks time has passed, then try again and if it still slips ur ****ed and u need a new clutch like i told u before we pulled the tranny...

If it's an aftermarket "Stage 1" style full faced disc, and it wasn't broken in properly (you know not covered in oil, lower rpms and easy shifting for at least 500 miles) then that clutch is screwed.

Re: tranny seal leak causing my clutch to slip
Its a f1 six puck that we just installed and we put 1000 super easy miles on it for break in (dont know how bad the oil was leaking during break in, we never saw it on the ground). Once we broke it in we sprayed nitrous to it and it held fine on a 75 shot. Even got a few races on it, until later that night it started slipping. It wasnt till 2 days later we relaized it was leaking oil out of the tranny cause we started noticing oil spots that eventually lead to puddles. Once a quart and a half leak out it stopped slipping a bit and stopped leaking all together. A week later we pulled it out and fixed everything like stated in the above post
