Tranny problem..
Okay so I don't know much about tranny's. Actually nothing. I guess my sycros's went bad where my half shaft go's in my tranny...I guess it's where a LSD would go. Now my mechanic wants to install a type R LSD but told me I need to purchase a GSR Gear ring. Where the hell do I get one of these things?

I think you're referring to the differential and not the synchros. What is the problem with your transmission? What I'm asking is, does it grind when switching gears or does it not go forward? Make noise?
Anyway, you can purchase a ring gear from any transmission shop in your area, possibly the Acura dealer, or search for "Y80 ring gear" on ebay, google shopping, or the forums.

Re: Tranny problem..
Thanks man for the response. Well I took my car to my mechanic and he was installing my half shafts and notice that my differential was causing my half shaft to jiggle a little bit. It's all loose up in the cavity where the half would go. And when I would drive it seems like something was loose every little bump or so, it sucked. So he offered me a type R lsd while it was open but said I need to get the ring gear. I found this one but it says cable so I'm not sure it's going to work. How much do these go for from the dealer?

Re: Tranny problem..
Here's what I believe is happening, but I'm not certain (which is why I haven't made a 2nd reply):
- OP went to mechanic to have CV axles changed.
- Mechanic found freeplay in the differential.
- Mechanic pulled transmission off, split the case, and is trying to sell OP a diff from an S80
- Mechanic states that he cannot complete task without a Y80 ring gear.
- OP is asking where he can purchase a Y80 ring gear.
- OP found a YS1 ring gear on ebay and is asking if it'll fit.
OP, here's a GSR ring gear: http://thmotorsports.com/carbonetic/...1/i-37936.aspx
I have no idea whether it'll fit your car or not because I'm not sure what your setup is.

Same thing happened to my boys 2000 Si Tranny. He would be driving down the street and you could hear the differential kicking in the tranny. We popped out the axle and it was loose inside. We just got an ITR tranny and called it a day.
