i have a 94 civic cx with a d16z6 engine turbocharged.IT GRINDS! please help.

When i'm racing or pushing the car i shift and 2nd gear grinds when i shift fast but then if i push in the clutch and wait a bit then shift it's fine and doens't grind so then i pushed it in 2nd then shifted to 3rd and it grinded also.....i have an lsd that i can install if that would help any?

please what can i do to stop this grinding?

sounds like syncros to me
my d16 tranny did the same thing. 3rd and 5th syncros were trash. when i raced it they ground like hell.

yeah i thoguht syncro's too how much are they to replace do any of you know?

definitely the snychros. I had a rebuild on mines with the same prob as yours but mines was under warranty. it was a whole rebuild so i am guessing anywhere from $500-$1000 at the honda dealer.

damn that's alot of cash is it hard to do it on your own? with a haynes manual or soemthing of the sort?

I've had the same problem...this is my third tranny, I would just try to find a good used tranny and hope it doesn't have the same problem. The last time I went through this I had to take the tranny(s) I bought back twice because they both had bad syncros...didn't find out until I put the tranny in.

so I think you have 3 options...

1. fix the synros in your tranny

2. get a new tranny and hope for the best

3. get a B series engine, cus I never hear anyopne having problems with those trannys.

just buy a new tranny. 92-00 EX trannies are like $300.

thats the only good thing about sohcs, they are cheap and DISPOSABLE

everybody has tranny issues. not just limited to the d-series. my jdm b16's tranny grinds 3rd sometimes when i shift from 2 to 3 at redline and sometimes even at around 4500rpm

Fo Sho. 3rd is the first to go out most of the time. Get a new tranny if your not happy with it.

I've only ever seen ONE bad synchro from a D tranny. It was from last shifter fork that WIPED 2/3's of the teeth off the synchro and took out the ring also. The ring ended up blocking out 1st gear.

Yeah i have the same problem too...sometimes it'll got right in and sometimes it'll grind first and go in or it just wont go in at all...not too sure what the problem is but i dont push my car as much anymore...

my d series tranny blows. it makes a really loud winding noise when i get above 3000rpm. it is in all gears. i was wondering if changing out synchros was a dificult task. because i can buy another tranny from this one dude for $50 but second gear grinds. i was thinkin about buying that tranny and changing out the second gear synchro.

i have changed out the clutch, throw out bearing, and changed my fluid to OEM fluid but still.

I'd change the shifter fork before I'd even look at the synchro.
