need some help guys/tranny problem
This is in my friends 98 civic ex. When my friend shifts into second it seems like the clutch is slipping and sometimes while he's in second it wants to pop out. This only happens in second gear. Any other gear he can push the car and shift hard without any slippage. Just wondering if any of you know what's going on. Snychros, shift linkage...his shift linkage was damaged from a tow awhile back. Thanks for the help.

2nd gear syncros are going/gone. Time for a rebuild.
Oh and your friend has been doing too much speed shifting.

Okay, here's a quick brain teaser Spade. My tranny is acting up. With the clutch all the way out at idle you can hear a buzzing noise. Press the clutch in and it stops? What do you think it is?

Re: need some help guys/tranny problem (Spade)
i have no experience with tranny repair cost. What would he be looking at in terms of cost for replacing the 2nd gear snycros. Would a full rebuild be necessary and also would it just be more cost efficient to just buy a new tranny? Thanks

It is more cost efficient to purchase a "KNOWN GOOD" used tranny.
Rebuilds can cost from 600-1200 dollars.

Someone may be picking it up tomorrow. If they don't. I probably will, however shippinig is going to be a bitch, and I'm looking for locals first.

I'm disappointed in you! I only have made about 8,000,000,000 posts about the input shaft bearing in the tranny when people have the same symptoms. INPUT SHAFT BEARING!!!

Re: need some help guys/tranny problem (BauleyCivic)
Well damn Bauley, correct you are. Looks like I'll be replacing both when I pull the clutch apart. You think it'll be okay for another 1000 miles or so? What's the worst that can happen if it finally goes?
