Re: tranny fluid. (dumped_ej1)
auto or 5mt?
in either case, you don't. if you think it's gross, flush it and know for sure. if 5mt, I think it takes 2 quarts [could be wrong] of 10w30 [or Honda MTF haha]

You can check it on a manual transmission. If your looking under the hood, check on the passenger side right above the axle on the transmission is a 19mm (i think) plug/bolt. Take that out and it should be your transmission fluid fill hole. Stick your finger in and the level should be just under the plug. (assuming your on a level surface). It takes 2 - 2 1/2 quarts of 10w-30, Honda MTF, or you can use GM Syncromesh.

Re: tranny fluid. (dumped_ej1)
my point was that there isn't much fluid in the trans. if you're going to go through all the trouble to check it, you might as well just flush it and KNOW what condition the fluid is in.

Re: tranny fluid. (dumped_ej1)
well, then you're not checking the tranny fluid, you're checking the tranny fluid level.
if your trans grinds sometimes into third and never in any other gears, then I think it's pretty obvious

Re: (dumped_ej1)
You can get Penzoil Synchromesh at the parts store which is identical to GM syncromesh. To get GM SM Friction Modified fluid, which will help with the grinding, you need to go to the dealer to get it. I'd try a flush and fill with the regular fluid first, becuase the FM fluid is about $15 a bottle, and sometimes just fresh fluid can help.

Re: (dumped_ej1)
autozone will, i just bought some. Buy 3 quarts and fill the tranny untill it comes out the filler hole. Give it a few miles to really lube the entire trany.
EDIT: Should be right around 2 quarts but buy 3 so you know youve got enough.

You would need either 2qts of Synchromesh fluid or 2qts of Synchromesh FM. The FM fluid is not an additive, but the same as any other tranny fluid. If you have that much of a problem getting to a GM dealer, try the penzoil first.

Re: (dumped_ej1)
The penzoil is the tranny fluid itself. Go to Autzone and buy 3 quarts and fill up ur tranny with it. Like we have said before it should only take 2 quarts or so.

Honda says you can run 5W-30 in ur tranny, running synthetic just wont break down as fast.
