traction with my h22 eg hatch?
hello all. I have a 94 civic Si hatch and im having problem getting traction. I knew when going in to this i would have this problem but i didnt know that it would spin tires going in to 3rd gear... its an all stock h22a4 nothing but a clutch and some hasport mounts. It defiantly is fun to drive but i see lots of people not having this much problems with traction... i was wondering if there was any advise people could shoot my way to help me with my problem.. yes i know a gsr motor would of been easier..
GSR would have been easier yes, but not near as fun to drive lol. The only thing you can really do is get some sticky tires and maybe a bigger size. With that much power in a light car there is much you can do about it. You could try launch contol but that would require alot of ignition modding.
That and also approach the throttle with a lighter touch, finesse it. When I went from Civic to Prelude I had problems chirping the tires for about a week. It was embarrassing.
Oooo! This makes me excited as I should be getting my car back from the shop soon! I started a H22 swap, ran out of time and had it towed over. They are finishing it up this week.
Anyways, I agree with others, traction bar, wider/stickier tires.

At least, it doesn't matter if he's using crappy tires. Which we've yet to discover is he's using drag radials, summer tires, or all season sumitomos.
old, worn suspension components can amplify the issue. if you haven't yet, check everything and replace as needed.
if you get some good tires on there and are still having trouble you may want to concider an LSD. that should make the best use of any tire you put on.

Let some air out. Bigger tires (wider and diameter). You want the contact patch with the ground as large as possible. Shift weight in the car to the front if possible.

I have traction bars on the rear but with the h22 swap the front ones wont fit. i have ground control coil overs with koni struts. it rides great. Go to tire rack and look at summer tires and see which one they like the best in their recent testing. Can't really go wrong in picking one of tire racks choices of solid summer tires.
This is what led me to purchase my Yokohama S. Drives:

Check this site out. I am sure the owner here can help you out since he specializes in H swaps. They even make the traction bars which can hook up to the front mount on the H22 motor. I plan on picking one up when I get my tax refund next year
I already have their Alternator reolcation bracket to be able to use a OBD0 Civic alternator. Worked out perfectly for me.http://www.explicitspeedperformance.net/ESPTBS.html
