Tire valve stem help.
The rubber part of my valve stem in my tire has torn and will not hold air. Is that rubber stem part of the tire or seperate? I ask becasue the tire is almost new and I hate to have to buy a whole new tire for something small like this. Can I just get the rubber stem replaced?
thx

The valve stem is seperate, cost about $3 for a pair. but you have to goto a tire shop to have it replaced since you have to practicly take the tire off to get to it tho because there put in from the inside of the rim.

You don't have to go to a tire shop to replace it. If you can figure out a way to break the bead (seal between rim and tire), it only takes a minute to replace the valve stem.

correct, but if the worker isnt careful and moves the tire slightly, your balance will be off on your rim, so keep an eye out when you get it fixed.
i say just go to a tire shop and have them do it, unless you got a hydrolic bead breaker sitting in your garage seriously though, youll probably **** up the bead and ruin the tire if you try to do it yourself.
it shouldnt cost you more than 3$ for the valve stem and maybe a few bucks for labor?

Seriously just take it to a tire shop. If you dont reseat the bead correctly while inflating it or dont know what your doing you can seriously hurt yourself and for what? to save a few bucks? its just not worth it besides most home air compressors arent big enough to reseat a tire anyhow unless you have a big one with a large tank on it. You need a good quick blast to get them to seat. As for the balencing is concerned its allways a good idea to rebalance your tires every few thousand miles if not sooner for thread life. No you dont have to but it does help.

Same thing happened to me. Tire shop charged me 5$ to fix. This is on 15" tire.
I am sure it would be like 15$ for a 17" or 18" wheel

I ussed to work at a tire shop and i dont think we would of charged more because you dont have to completly take the tires off, just break the seal on one side and push down on them with the ram to hold it. Takes less then a minute. As for the balancing part. Dosent matter what size they are there all the same to do. just have to turn the *** one more setting for the bigger wheels.
