Time for a new valve cover gasket?
D16Y8 99 Civic EX
This seems to be a common oil leak / gunk buildup area on honda engines. Im just guessing where its coming from the valve cover gasket area? Any other places to check before I go about installing the new gaskets?

While you have the VC off, you might as well check the valve lash and adjust if necessary, and change the spark plugs.

Any recommendations for an aftermarket dizzy? Hondas are like 3x the price

There is an O-ring on the distributor that you can replace. Unless the shaft is bad I'd replace the O-ring.
It'd be better to rebuild the distributor with OEM parts than to buy an aftermarket one.

There is an internal seal on the shaft, as well as an external O ring.
If there is oil inside your cap, it's the shaft seal.
If it's just leaking out, replace the o ring.

if nothing else is failing, ignition wise, in the distributor, you don't need to replace anything else.

Re: Time for a new valve cover gasket?
- use a wire brush to scrape the Calcium buildup
- spray some engine degreaser to remove the caked up oil on the block
