Default throttle sticks

Everytime i get in my car when its been sitting the throttle is usually stuck. I have to apply a little extra pressure to break it loose. It also does that if i rip on my car and let of the gas, It just gets stuck when it snaps back. I know its not the cable or gas pedal because ive taken out the throttle body before, and it just gets stuck when its closed.

Are you sure the cable isn't snagging somewhere. I'm sure you haven't inspected the ENTIRE cable. It just takes a little kink/fray.

I've noticed this with countless honda motors, so your problem isn't rare. The bad news is I've never really fixed the problem. Cleaning it out (carb cleaner+air compressor...off the car), or even sanding around the throttle blade (and the blade edge itself) has seemed to help some.

i cleaned it out with carb cleaner but i never sanded it down. Could it be somewhere in the lubrication. Can some kind of lubricant help it?

it's not the return spring. when I say clean, not just the path, but the bushing the shaft goes into, too (which is why you'd want forced air along with it). you could always put a little oil on the shaft after cleaning it well.

im right there with you on that, i was just gonna check my throttle cable and see if its too tight since the cold weather brings shrinkage of metal and since it only does it when sitting and cold engine i figured that might be a solution, i hope.

sounds like u need a t/b service. get some intake cleaner and hold ur throttle open and spray the cleaner on ur throttle blade. then get a soft brush like a tooth brush and clean it off. make sure u clean the inside of the t/b too. then spray some more and start ur car. rev it up a few times to clear it out and u should be good to go.

do u have a throttle body coolant bypass? It might stick cause its frozen unless u say it happens when ur engine is hot. If not make sure it gets coolant to warm it up a bit

Please make sure you use throttle body cleaner and not carburator cleaner. It will be gentler on your fuel injectors. There is a difference.

I have yet to see a TB freeze, but it wouldn't have symptoms like this anyway. Carb cleaner doesn't even come in contact with your injectors, and wouldn't harm them if it did.

Ya, you're right. I don't know why I said that. I think I got up too early this morning. But I remember there being a specific difference between TB cleaner and Carb cleaner.......maybe I will remember after I have a few coffees.

I have seen build up of somethign on a throttle body that was causing the "blade" to stick. I have also seen on a much older car the return spring mechanism thing get gunky with old grease in the cold and really start sticking. I used grafite on that one.

I would try disconnecting your throttle cable from your throttle and then play with the throttle. If it still sticks you know it has something to do with your entire throttle body assembly. If it doesn't stick anymore then you know it has something to do with your cable/pedal assembly.

TB Cleaner is advertised to be "sensor safe", so I imagine there's some risk for your o2 sensors or cat converter if carb cleaner is used in excess. It's best to just remove the TB anyway, and not difficult. Removing the cable is unnecessary since you can just move the throttle by hand and it will do the same thing. Graphite is ok, especially since it doesn't attract grime like oil...but it also doesn't seem to stick around. WD40 penetrates fast, but is too thin to last, too. Ordinary 3in1 oil or equivilant seems to work best.
