Default car problem with vid.. help please

well i was drivin on the freeway today, drivin it pretty hard...
and then all of a sudden when i popped it on nuetral... my car felt like it was about to stall. It was shaking and when i got to the stop light my car just died. I tried turning it on... and it barely worked, and my car was struggling on its way. I got to the parking lot of Kragens auto parts, when I tried testing my battery it was basically dead. But I dont understand what the battery had to go with the whole car stalling, I'm guessing its my alternator... anyways.. I changed my battery got a new one.. and since then, my exhaust seems like it got louder, and my throttle jumps up and down under nuetral.. the throttle response lags.. and i smell a WHOLE lot of exhaust fumes... like i have no catalytics...

coculd it be that i have an exhaust leak or something?
my odometer stick jumps up and dowwn under 1k rpm on nuetral..

by the way i hit a really deep dip today.. and i heard a metal hit
