Default Throttle body cleaning help...

Well shops want to charge 60-150.00 just to clean my throttle body so i said forget it im doing it myself. Tonight i just wanted to see how dirty it was. Also as a starter i never have worked on my car but im starting to, dam shops suck now days. Well i get my intake off, i didnt have to disconnect any wires, i was able to just get it off the throttle and move it out of the way. I see above the throttle plate its clean but under it is nasty. I do now want to remove the throttle body just b/c i dont want to screw anything up. Is there anything bad about trying to clean it without removing it. I can just make it so the throttle stays open and just clean away. What product should i use to clean it? I have heard to have the car running while doing this....is this true? Any help is appriciated

I would recommend you go to honda and buy a new gasket for the throttle body and take that sucker off and clean the **** out of it. You would have access to all the little holes for various sensors and getting those clean is also important. Just use throttle body cleaner (carb cleaner) and some paper towels. Then when you put it back on...properly (make sure all of the old gasket is gone), you can spray a little at a time WHILE the car is running. It will bog and have a rough idle. Do that a little then go for a ride.

Ive already read that thread. I however am trying to do this WITHOUT REMOVING the throttle body. It does not have to get majorly cleaned b/c in april im installing a y8 manifold which is when ill do a major clean. Right now im just trying to get the buildup under the plate cleaned. I was just going to go get some carb cleaner like you suggested and go away with a toothe brush. Is it bad if the carb cleaner goes into the intake manifold past the throttle body?

Not really....when you finish just go for a drive around the block.
