Well it could be stuck open. or you have the wrong temp thermostat.
Could also be just the sender or the actual dash guage itself.
How long does it take to get to operating temp?
Does your heater work correctly?
Or do you have a big *** radiator with big ol'fans. Just kidding!

Re: Thermostat Or What??? (whatsthatnoise)
I have a b16a2 that has been doing the same thing. It takes 10-15 minutes and never reaches the 1/2 way mark and then drops to 1 notch above cold when the heats turned on.
The heat is warm and their are no leaks anywhere in my cooling system. Fluid level is fine so Iam thinking my thermostat is acting up or stuck open
, it has never done this before.

would you consider a thermostat to be bad if:
- Car heats up in bout 5 minutes of constant driving
- After heating up, gauge stays put at slightly below half-way mark
- Does not overheat or have an abnormal/unwarranted rise or drop in temperature
- Hoses feel like their under more pressure than usual at ANY given time weither the engine be hot or cold?
- Turn on the heat the gauge doesn't show a drop in engine temperature.
I ask this not to hijack the thread but because I was told my thermostat may be the reason my two coolant hoses (upper & lower) feel like their under more pressure than before after having put in a new radiator.

well now that it's gettin colder, it take about 15 min of warming up the car for the thermo to jux move up a little i drive 30 min. to work everyday and by the time i get home to work or work to home it doesn't even reach a quarter mark. So I'm guessing you guys r right my thermo is stuck open. Now my question is, Is it safe to drive like that until winter ends? cuz its cold and don't wanna work on the car when its cold.

The way to find out if the thermostat is bad is to take it out <--- not being a smart ***.
If its open yeah its bad, if its closed you can tie a string to it and put it in a pot with a thermometer. Wait till it reaches 180F(I think that's hondas opp temp, yeah its been a while) and see if it opens. Really though, just get a new one if you have the money.
This goes to everyone that thinks driving around with a cold motor is fine. ITS NOT!!
For one, your pistons are tapered for a reason. The top of the piston expands more that the bottom because of the high heat they are exposed to. When you motor is cold your pistons and rings will not conform to the cylinder walls. Running cold does the most wear on your motor. I have heard of NY taxi motors go for over 600,000 miles with no mechanical problem because they only turn there car off when serviced, besides that they go 24/7. Sometimes if you go on a really long trip your car will over heat since your coolant cannot absorb any heat produced.
When you dont allow your motor to get warm you oil turns to sludge. The heat of the motor burns off condensation that is in your oil. For every one gallon of fuel burned one gallon of water is produced.
Last but not least your car can stay in open loop. This waste gas and no VT@K. Running rich kills cats(not the animal) as well.
Do your motor a favor and change the thermostat.

Your fine. Mine never stayed right in the middle, always a little under.

Re: (fasthatchb18c1)
Again not to high-jack a thread but I'd rather do this than start a new one, my temp gauge on my D16Y8 will remain right under the wavy lines of the picture of the thermometer, what I call 1/4 of the way. It never goes up from there, and it only takes about 5-8 minutes of driving to warm up, heater warms up almost instantly. My point is this, if I park somewhere, per say just for example on the side of the road, and sit there about 20 minutes or so the temp starts to rise, and not just to half way I mean it goes 3/4 of the way and almost touching hot. The cooling fan still comes on, but it still does it. As soon as I start to drive it again it will cool back down and it never goes up, and it doesn't move if I have to sit in traffic for a bit or at a stop light. So obviously I just avoid sitting in one place idling for a long period of time however should I be worried that this is leading to something more major and I should fix it now? Or would this be considered a little bit normal. Obviously the water pump is pumping, and my thermostat has to be working so some extent...please if you have an idea, let me know. Thanks

Re: (bart2546)
Thats weird. Have you used any "Bar Leaks" or anything that could of clogged/resticted your system?
edit: actually it could just be your temp sensor. I'm not too familiar with what Ohms you would want to read out of it but I bet you could find your answer here somewere.

Re: (fasthatchb18c1)
No, luckily I haven't had any leaks to have to use a stopleak, it just kind of baffles me....runs perfect all the time, never overheats, unless I'm sitting in just one place for an extended period of time. Also my coolant levels are right where they should be. My one friend(member here on H-T name Uncle Ben, not Uncle Bens with the plural but just Uncle Ben) said really there shouldn't be anything to worry about unless it starts doing it on a regular basis or while I'm driving, just wanted to see about a 2nd opinion, but thanks!
