theres a scratch on my b18b cylinder wall do i need to get it bored?

Default theres a scratch on my b18b cylinder wall do i need to get it bored?

ok i bought the whole rebuild kit for my b18b since i cracked a piston and it did do a small amount of damage to my cylinder wall it's scratched and i was wondering do i need to get it bored ? since im on a tight budget i was wonder if i would be able to get away with just putting everything together the way it is

It's best to get it bored. Otherwise you'll burn a lot of oil and possibly have a bunch of other problems.

When I rebuilt my D15B8 I used a cylinder honer to remove the lip caused by all the cylinder wear but that's a really crappy way to fix an engine. I only did it because I was going (and I did) drive that motor into the ground (Actually, that's a lie. It still runs great. I just have no use for it). You could possibly do the same. All it takes is the jig and a drill. But I wouldn't build the motor.

It also depends on the depth of the scratch.

the scratch is a pretty light scratch i also did hone mines theres still a small scratch most likely if i can afford it ill maybe just bore it cause i dont really want to get another block from craigslist

Getting it bored is always a positive thing to do regardless. You see some scratches, it's even more recommended.

Will it come out with 600 grit sandpaper wetted with motor oil? Maybe then you don't have to worry so much. If you are going to rebuild the whole thing, why did you not plan on boring it in the first place? Not a good place to save money if you want it done right.

the rebuild was not really plan'd i was forced to since my piston cracked and yeah i guess im just gonna bore it any recommendations? should i go with 81.5 or 82mm?? i plan on boosting this motor

.5 should be just fine. You don't want to go any farther than you need to.
