Is there really a difference.....HondaMTF vs. 10w30
Is it really noticable? I'm about to change the fluid. Honda dealer service guys said "we use both, not really a difference."
What do you think?

because honda says instead of being able to use honda MTF 10-30 is acceptable.
honda MTF has additives that help condition the transmission that 10-30 does not. use MTF if you have the option.

Re: Is there really a difference.....HondaMTF vs. 10w30 (Kamin)
You can use either 10w30 or 10w40 for tranny fluid. Keep in mind though Honda MTF is a lot better. I don't remember the numbers exactly but its something like:
Honda MTF: 15,000 miles till next change
10w30/40: 12,000 miles till next change
Do a search on tranny fluid because there is a thread that has a comparison chart on it.

No way the interval can be THAT short. We're talking manual tranny here.

the more times the better, you figure if you every grided a gear, there's metal shavings, that go in your tranny oil. and that just goes around and around through the gears, wearing them down and F***ing **** up, part ware alot faster when there's matel in the oil. if you know what I mean.

the Tranny has a magnet in it to pick up any metal shavings. but i guess you didn't know that.

I feel sorry for that neglect inflicted upon your Si.
I change my motor oil, radiator fluid and transmission fluid like clockwork.
Pennzoil Synchromesh here.

Honda MTF is gear oil. I forget if it's 70w80 or 75w80.
Either way, at standard trani operating temperatures, 10w30 and Honda MTF will be about the same. If your running at the extremes, they exhibit slightly different properties.

really? my acura helms says to use 10w30 or 10w40 when refilling the tranny. it doesnt even say to use acura or honda branded mtf. wierd. and it definately isnt mobil1. you should never use synthetic engine oil in a honda tranny... its too slippery

Honda (or Rover, as the case may be) didn't create their MTF until recently. I forget when. Irrelivently, if you have a manual from 95 or earlier, for sure, it won't mention Honda MTF, because it didn't exist.
