Default tapping starter?

when a starter is bad, does the tapping trick always work? i just put a LS into my 95 civic and it wont start!! no crank or anything but it does make a quick noise from the starter like a zapping sound. i tried the tapping trick but no luck. does anybody have any ideas? i know that all my connections are right. the starter was bought used from a friend so i have a feeling it was a bad starter from the beginning. please helpp

You sure its not the battery? When a battery is left out it can be quick to drain. Especially the small ones that come in our cars. Give it a charge and see if that works. The tapping trick does work in most cases though.

u can also jump the starter but dont recommend it. just troubleshoot for bad wires and fuses and drained battery... fuel & spark?

Pull the starter and take it to you local parts house and have them test it for you. Its free and can give you a 100% for sure answer.

This is also a thought...have you made absolutely positive you have the right grounds and that they are clean? This will cause a no start condition with the symptoms you described as well.

Good luck.

^I agree. Check the important ground wire on the transmission. You may have forgotten to connect it.

Fuse 32 under the hood is blown.

Check all the engine/transmission ground connections.

the fuses under my hood isnt labeled as numbers. only names of what they are for. is fuse 32 for the radio and clock or does that fuse control something with the motor also. i checked the fuse under the dash for the radio and that one is good. also my ground connections are clean . i have a feeling it might be a bad distributor??

A blown fuse 32 won't prevent the engine from starting, but it will kill the clock and radio and the storage of CEL codes by the ECU.
