is tach rpm suppose to be at zero when engine idle??
i have just made all the connection to test my tach. when i start the engine, the pointer is pointing to about 1 rpm at idle. Is it suppose to be at 0 rpm when leaving the engine on w/o giving gas. Is there something wrong? I have a 95 civic manual. Thanks

When an engine is running at idle, it is still turning, therefore the ONLY time your engine will be at 0 RPM is when it is off.

What kind of tach is it? Some tach's you have to clip the wires in the back to get it right for how many cylinder's you have. Read the diagram and see which wires to cut if you have to do so. But to answer your question, no your tach should not be at zero.
