Swapping Springs...HELP
Newbie Help =[
Tomorrow I'm going to TRY and start swapping springs on my new toy. (99 civic si) The guy who had it before me lowered it 2.5 inches he said and I really cant take it anymore. I'm sick of the ******* thing scraping on every driveway and small dip in the road. The manual I have doesn't really give any information on taking removing the springs. Anyone know of a good tutorial?
Thanks

Re: Swapping Springs...HELP (sMaq)
I've never done coilovers, just springs and shocks, so some of this may be a little off. Get or borrow a spring compressor. You may be able to rent one at a local auto. store. Take the whole shock and spring combo off the car. In the rear it should be two bolts in the car, one underneath at the bottom of the shock. The front is the same except you will need to take out the collar bolt that clamps the shock fork to the shock body. Then same deal with one bolt and nut under the car and two in the engine bay. Then tighten the compressors onto the spring. You don't have to compress the spring, just keep it from popping off when you take off the top (hat) of the assembly. Now stick an allen key in the top of the shock's shaft to hold it and turn the nut at the base of it with a 14mm wrench. The shock hat should come off. Remember the order all the washers and bumpstops come off in. Pull the old spring off. Now someone can tell you how to install the coilovers. You'll probably have to lower them a lot and slip it over the shock and reassemble everything. Then you can adjust the spring height. Good luck. Air tools are your friend with bolts under the car. Good luck!

Re: Swapping Springs...HELP (2camsaam)
actually if it's already lowered 2 1/2 inches then you won't really need a spring compressor... now this sounds stupid, but just put your foot on the coil when it's laying on the ground and use your impact on the top strut nut. It'll seem like it's going to blow off, but it won't with that much of a drop there won't be too much pressure. If it's your first time taking off coils then you might not want to use my method, but all the people that have done it before, know what I'm talking about.
