Swapping in D16Y8 into 96 DX hatch?
Well I have been reading all kinds of posts and most of the information is scattered. I bought a complete 98 D16y8 Engine, Tranny, and P2P ecu without an engine wiring harness. Could someone tell me what I need to do to my Y7 wiring harness. Do I need to extend any wires? Switch any plug wires around at the ECU. Any pictures of the ECU plugs with the swapped colored wires would be great. Anthing else extra you think I might need to buy from Honda before I get started. I plan on changing timing belt, water pump, Clutch & Flywheel, stock engine mounts, New S.S. 4-2-1 Header. I need to have everything with me when i do the swap because i will only have one full day to complete it. I dont mind buying pics and detailed info on doing this swap. I can Paypal it to you. Thanks guys.

OBD2a hatches didn't typically get a fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor. ALL Y8 ECU's should be looking for one though, so you'll probably run into this as an issue. No, there is no fix for it either.
Your Y7 used a 3-wire IACV. Manual Y8's used a 2-wire - you need to do some re-wiring. If you have an auto Y8 ECU (which did use the 3-wire IACV), your ECU will throw codes for not having an auto tranny hooked up.
A 98 ECU will plug into your 96 harness.
Buy a Helms.

Concerning the FTP sensor. Do you know which pin on the ECU is looking for this sensor. Has anyone tried a resistor to ground or resisitor to Pos. Given sombody find out what that resistance may be on their own EX civic.

reuse your wiring harness, and the y8 ecu. you will need a plug for 2 wire iac and rewire your harness for it. you can reuse all your mounts on your old motor,

Thanks guys. You make it sound so simple. So if I just get the Y8 ENGINE harness and use my stock Y7 engine BAY wiring it should just plug and play without any wiring rework?Even from the ECU?

The wire harness that connects the sensors on the engine to the ECU is all one piece - it feeds through the firewall. If you get an Ex harness, you'll still need to do some re-wiring.
You should really find a Helms manual...

if u get the y8 engine harness and ecu then everything is plug and play. no rewiring needed as long as the wiring harness is also a 96-98(same as your car)obd2a.
even on a b-series swap to a 96-98 ek. all u need is the same year y8 harness and extend some wires.
and in this case, a y8 engine harness, y8 ecu and a y8 motor is just a simple bolt on affair.
i didnt come across codes or the issue about the FTP...

You did a swap into a Cx/Dx using an Ex harness and an OBD2 ECU and didn't have to do anything with the secondary O2 sensor??
All 6th gen Ex's came with an FTP sensor but not all Cx/Dx's did...
