SWAPPING A D16Y8 into a 93 Civic CX hatch HELP!!!
I am helping my friends out with this swap and we need some help from you guys. . .We are swapping a D16Y8 (from a 98 Civic Ex) into a 93 Civic Cx Hatch. We have the new motor bolted up and stuff but now we need to do the wiring. We have the ecu and the wiring. We are kinda jammed on some of it though. Can someone tell me what we have to do because I dont really know too much about any of the Honda or Civic wiring. Please let me know what we have to do or any wiring diagrams or anything THANKS ALOT!!

I would try to stay obd1 if i were you. The d16y8 might just run off a p28 ecu without rechipping it but i don't know. There will be a few extra wires that you will need to run with the 98 ex ecu. That is about all i can help but i'm sure there are othere that will know more.

I am doing that same thing to my ride. (96EX to 93CX) I finish the switch, but ran into a problem with a broken camshaft. So it was never started or completed finished the process.
From the information I received from different people. They said to stay OBDI and just switch any sensors that don't fit the OBDI harness. As for the ECU, you can use the p28 and then run some wires to the VTEC solenoid. And also you might want to get a different distributor or switch the wiring.

there is soo much miss information on the internet....
just swap over from CX engine to new engine
wire harness
injectors
distributor....
everything should plug in and it should run on the STOCK CX ECU
if not you have done something wrong...
you really aren't gonna pick up much power putting in an HX engine!!
hope he got it cheap!!!
and it really won't do any good if you are still using the cx tranny!

Yeah, their is so much misinformation. Maybe you should try reading what engine he stated again. EX not HX, and using a stock CX ECU will only have the engine running like a CX engine. And yes, he will see a difference in power gains swapping a EX into the vehicle. I may not known everything about cars. But I do know that a CX is a slug compared to a EX or any other motor. And I know this from experience.

Ok here is what happened for our swap . . . Taking out the CX motor: Drained fluids, disconnected the electronics off of the strut mounts where all the connectors are and we pulled the motor. We dropped the new motor in and the EX wiring harness is WITH the ex motor. Are we suppose to UNPLUG all the sensors and stuff from where they go INTO the motor, Cuz all we did was unplug them in the bay and all the connections into the motor are still on the OLD motor. SO should we just pull the hole harness off the old cx motor and plug it all into the NEW Ex motor? Will this work? Or what are we supposed to do? HELP!!

As before, you want to use the CX wires harness and switch any sensors that won't fit(most plugs will fit fine). The EX distributor you can change over cause the plugs won't fit the CX harness, so use the CX distributor or another 92-95 distributor. Then run a wire from the ECU to activate the VTEC solenoid (for this part I haven't done yet, so you can ask from other for advice). Hope some of this helps.

yeah, you will ned to use the old CX wiring harness, then you will also have to rewire the distrib, injectors, and wire up your own Vtec wiring harness including the single o2 sensor to 4 wire. and you will need a p28 ECU to run it right.
i dont know if you can swap over the injectors and distrib from the CX to the EX motor. It might be the same. Maybe someone on this board have tried that before.

my friend has a 92 si hatch and dropped in a 96 dx engine. your doing the same thing but instead your going v-tech. My friend went from v-tech to non v-tech. He used his stock ecu, mount, and harness. the only thing he chngd was the alternator. All you probably need is to rewire your harness because you need to plug in the v-tech. everything else should hook up.

For the fuel injectors, you can still use the EX injectors. The thing is you will have to grind the sides of the EX injectors for the CX injectors clips to fit. And for the distributor, the wires fit fine to my knowledge. But again, I did this awhile back and can't recall everything. I will be doing this swap again in the near future and hopefully take some note and picture. I will try document everything for future references for other member that may have this question again.
