Default Swap issues. Obd2a engine obd2b car

Hey HT,

Here is what I have 1999 ex with obd2b engine harness. Obd2a b16b with matching ECU.

I know the alternator plug is different. Distributor plug is different and the iat.

What is needed to complete the swap. The b16b does not have the crank sensor on the oil pump.

I can re-wire or buy a conversion adapter for the distributor from rywire. IAT can be swapped also.

What year alternator should I buy, assuming you cant repin.

Thank you

The alternator plug should be the same... a small light green square-ish round 4 wire plug. The OBD-1 style alternator plug is a larger dark green round 4 wire plug.

I'm in Canada and we have the 3 pin alt plug, but I was able to order a denso 4 pin plug online.

I have sourced the proper IAT, denso 4 pin plug ( convert obd2b harness to 4 pin) Distributor adapter.

Need to buy a obd2b to obd2a jump cable so I can use the obd2a ecu.

Since I am still using the obd2b engine harness and that will plug into the chassis, it should all work ya? All the gauges and mil lights etc.

I will be adding 1 wire for the ELD which the ecu will be looking for, hence the 4pin conversion for the alternator.

Ummmm... Canadian eh ? Does your under hood fuse box have the ELD circuit in it ??? If so, you would only have to wire the 4th wire from the alternator over to the fuse box. Otherwise, it sounds like you everything else figured out.

I'll take a look tonight, I don't think it does since the y8 in there previously did not have it.

But I will be running the jdm pct efi which does look for that signal otherwise it will throw a code.

The 4th wire is for the ELD which we never got over here in Canada. You can try to find a used USDM fuse box which will have it, deal with the code or see if there's some other way around it (I really can't remember if there is or not)

You can swap D-series sensors into the distributor so it plugs into you existing harness. They're exactly the same aside from the plug.

The easy fix for the IAT is to use one from a Y7 and install it in the intake piping going to the throttle body.

Thanks 94EG8, this eld might be a pain to deal with. I think the only other work around than what you suggested is going to obd1 and a chipped p28. Which I am trying to avoid.

That was my plan for the IAT is to get a y7 one and plug it in the intake tube.

I already bought the ry-wire adapter but I might go rob the parts from the wrecker, any d-series distributor or has to be from a y8?

Bought a used fuse box off of ebay with the plugs and some wire. I will wire in the ELD and hopefully it will work. With a jumper harness there should be no issues with the tachometer not working? From what I have researched everything will work as planned.

Any '99 - '00 Y7/Y8 or '99 - '01 B20 (CR-V) will work.

Thanks I went to the wrecker yesterday and grabbed one. It's a good thing also, the b16b distributor was starting to seize up so I took this opportunity to take it all apart and give a good clean and some fresh oil on the shaft.

Just waiting on the jumper harness to come in and I can finish this up.

I also grabbed a USDM Fuse box and rabbed the ELD and harness from there, just gotta wire it into the car. Looks really straight forward.

You can buy the bearing separate in the aftermarket btw. They're an odd size made by Nachi, you can get them from industrial bearing suppliers.

It spins freely now, I took a small jewelers file and clean off all the surface rust and couple daps of oil and it works nicely. I found a thread on here about replacing the bearing, cant remember if they put the p/n in there or not. But I can search it up if needed.

I wired in the ELD and Alternator input yesterday, engine in going in next week as I am going away for a few days. Plus still waiting on the jumper harness.
