Swap into Del Sol
I'm contemplating getting a b18c1 swap into my Sol in January. Was looking at B20's, which would give me more power for a cheaper price, but it seems as though it won't be smog legal. The guy i was talking to who is going to do the swap for me said that you have to use an aftermarket intake manifold with the B20, because the stock one won't fit, and nobody makes a carb legal manifold for the b20. Can anybody confirm this? Any recommendations? Oh yea, and this might be a stupid question but, if I get an alarm for my car now, will it have to be completely re-done if I get a swap?

an LS intake manifold will work jst fine. but the b18c1 will make better power by far.
id say go for a b18c1 if you can afford it. way more potential and an all around better engine

I would assume your alarm would be fine, but depending on its options, you may need to resplice/resolder some wires since you'd most likely have a new engine harness.

True, but I think he meant more power over his current engine.

or you can use a b16 IM as well. i was totally in your shoes 2 months ago. i was contemplating about a boosted sohc, or a b20. finally i made my decision and decided to stick to a swapped n/a motor for "long term" reasons. but in the end instead of the b20, which no way in hell can be smogged in cali, although it's a little torque monster, i went and paid the extra cash for a complete 98 usdm obd1 gsr swap for my 93 del sol. in the end, i am completely satisfied with my decision...especially when the vtec kicks in woo-hooo! i say go for the gsr!

Re: Swap into Del Sol (whoDAT)
Well I definetly can do without powersteering, I don't have that right now, and i'm used to it, so thats not a prob. I think I might go with the gsr swap. Definetly like the power the b18c1 makes, seen as how I used to drive a GSR. Where'd you get your swap done whoDAT?

my buddies' and i did it ourselves in my garage. including doing the auto to manual conversion, taking out my power steering and replacing the power steering rack for a manual one, it tooks us four days...could have been quicker if we hadn't slacked off so much. we got drunk everynight and woke up at 1-2pm with a hangover...oh well, it was fun and wasn't rushed.
