Default Suspension Questions....

K i admit i am a suspension noob... so with that out of the way i have some questions...

QUESTION 1- If i get adjustable springs, do i have to get new shocks?

Question 2- With the Ground control kit, or Skunk2 coilover kit, do i have to get new shocks??

Question 3- If i get adjustable springs, should i or should i not get adjustable shocks?

BTW: I have a 92 cx hatch, and want to lower it about 2 - 2.25" F&R, and dont care about a harsh ride...

sorry the lame questions.... Plz dont flame.

No but it would be preferable to do it all at the same time to avoid having to do the install twice. Your factory shocks would blow out eventually, and it might take 1 month or even 1+ year. I've gone over 2 years on H&R Sport springs on factory shocks with 1 blown shock, and the ride is kinda bouncy at times but other than that, nothing else to complain of. So you "should" get new performance shocks to handle the stiffer springs, but it is not really a must if you don't have enough money.

I just notice you want to lower 2-2.25". Your shocks will be blown in no time with that type of drop. Your ride will also be total crap.

1) For the love of all things sacred and honda, take your factory struts and throw them in a lake or a fire pit or something. they will blow after a few months, not to mention you won't even get the performance gains that sport springs/coilovers would be able to give you. I recommend tokico illuminas or kyb adjustables if you have the cash to throw down. IMO konis are a waste of money unless you race or autocross because you don't really get to see what the konis can really do under normal driving.

2) replace the struts whether you get sport springs or coilovers. doesn't matter the stock struts WILL BLOW. Literally and metaphorically.

3) doesn't matter, depends how much $$$ you want to throw down. KYB GR2s will hold up with coilovers, just don't put your frame on the ground or anything like that (i have them and love my setup) and they are real cheap. I have friends with good experiences with Tokico HP/blues on regular lowering springs as well...those are not too expensive either.

My H&R Sports lower 1.75" in front, 1.50" in back. They will be put up for sale in about 2 weeks because I just ordered some Tein Flex coilovers today.

The reason I never bought aftermarket shocks to complement the H&R's is because I knew 1 day, I will eventually go with a full coilover setup. And finally after 2 years, that day has come.
